Aleksandar Markovic
Richard Mantle, General Director of the Leeds based Opera North, has announced that he has accepted the resignation of Serbian conductor Aleksandar Markovic, 41, as the Company’s Music Director, a position he took up in September 2016. Markovic will formally leave Opera North at the end of his first year in July 2017.
The conductor is currently on extended leave and it has been mutually agreed that he will not return to the Company for the remainder of the season, the news release says.
No reason is given for this decision. Markovic is living in Vienna. He has currently no other position.
