Voyage avec un violon seul; Johann Sebastian Bach: Partita Nr. 2, BWV 1004; Thierry De Mey: Passacaille et Variations; Aram Khachaturian: Monolog-Sonate; Agnès Pyka, Violine; 1 CD Klarthe KLA125; Aufnahme 04.2021, Veröffentlichung 11.2021 (digital), 25.02.2022 (CD) - (54’12) - Rezension von Remy Franck

French violinist Agnès Pyka, born in 1968, begins her program with a spirited and grippingly played Partita by Johann Sebastian Bach, somewhat rough in sound and overall quite superficial. This style of interpretation is better suited to Passacaglia and Variations by the Belgian composer Thierry De Mey (b. 1956), a work that inspires the soloist to play with great color and eloquence.
The CD ends with the rarely performed Monologue Sonata, composed by Aram Khachaturian in 1975 near the end of his life. The rhapsodic sonata very clearly contains elements of traditional Armenian music, with sometimes concise rhythms but also very lyrical passages. Agnès Pyka also plays this sonata very resolutely, whereas I remember it better with violinist Elsa Grether, who realized it far more expressively.
