The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (Australia) today the appointment of Melbourne-born Nicholas Carter (29) as its next Chief Conductor. Carter will be one of the youngest Chief conductors of an Australian state orchestra ever.

Carter was Associate Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra with Vladimir Ashkenazy, musical assistant to Simone Young at the Hamburg State Opera and currently he is Kapellmeister of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

In Adelaide, Carter will be a member of an artistic leadership team including British conductor, Jeffrey Tate, as Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Adviser as well as Pinchas Zukerman as Artist-in-Association. The team will start working in 2016.
