The American pianist Eric Lu has won the XIX. International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The 28-year-old beat ten other finalists from seven countries on Monday night.
Born in 1997, the pianist has been dividing his life between Berlin and Boston for years. He has already performed with renowned orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony, the Boston Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He won the International Piano Competition in Leeds in 2018 at the age of 20. His recordings for Warner Classics include works by Schubert, Chopin, Schumann and Brahms.
This was Eric Lu’s second participation in the Chopin Competition. He came fourth in 2015.
Kevin Chen (Canada) won second prize. The third prize went to Zitong Wang (China).
