Ireland’s National Concert Hall today announced the appointment of Alexander Shelley as Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra Ireland. Taking up the role in September 2026 for an initial term of three seasons, Shelley succeeds Jaime Martín who completed his term as chief conductor in May 2024.

Shelley is also Principal Associate Conductor with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director of Florida-based Artis–Naples, and the Pacific Symphony in California on a five-year term with effect from 2026-2027. At the end of this season, he is set to step down as music director of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra, a role he has held since 2015.
