The 46-year-old Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons will remain Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig for a further five years. His contract, which runs until 2027, will be extended until July 31, 2032, the Gewandhaus announced on Friday. Only the city council still has to approve this. Nelsons has conducted the orchestra since 2018.

Nelsons wants to further expand the Gewandhaus Orchestra’s collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), of which he is also Principal Conductor.
