Julius Benedict (1804-1885) studierte bei Johann Nepomuk Hummel und Carl Maria von Weber, lebte ab 1835 in England, war ein virtuoser Pianist und wurde später Dirigent und Opernkomponist.

Der italienische Pianist Nicolo Giuliano Tuccia spielt seine charmante und melodiöse Klaviersonate Nr. 1 E-Dur, sowie eine Reihe weiterer kleiner Stücke.

Wenn Finesse und Leichtigkeit die Hauptmerkmale dieser Werke sind, dann sollte der Interpret mit Inspiration der Musik eine attraktive Rhetorik geben. Das geschieht auf diesem Album nicht. Tuccias gradliniges Spiel fehlt es an Nuancen und an Souplesse, die Musik hebt nie wirklich ab.

Julius Benedict (1804–1885) studied under Johann Nepomuk Hummel and Carl Maria von Weber. He lived in England from 1835 onward and was a virtuoso pianist. Later, he became a conductor and opera composer.

Italian pianist Nicolo Giuliano Tuccia plays Benedict’s charming and melodious Piano Sonata No. 1 in E major, as well as a number of other short pieces.

If finesse and lightness are the main characteristics of these works, then the performer should bring inspiration and rhetoric to the music to make it attractive. This does not happen on this album. Tuccia’s straightforward playing lacks nuance and flexibility, and the music never really takes off.
