Kaum ein Gebet ist so oft vertont worden wie das Ave Maria. Die frühesten Vertonungen stammen aus der Zeit der Gregorianik. Seither wurde der Text von mehreren Hundert Komponisten aus allen Epochen der Musikgeschichte in Musik gesetzt. 68 dieser Vertonungen gibt es in dieser Box von Antes Edition. Sie geben einen guten Überblick über ein Repertoire, das vom gregorianischen Choral über Originalkompositionen und Bearbeitungen bis hin zu zeitgenössischen Stücken reicht. Es wäre sinnlos zu diskutieren, warum das eine oder andere nicht unwichtige Ave Maria fehlt. Wichtig ist die die Diversität der Kollektion, in der viele Facetten deutlich werden, weil das Ave Maria quasi jedes Mal anders klingt, hier schlicht, dort ehrbrünstig oder emotional, ernst oder heiter, anrührend oder meditativ, mehr liturgisch oder eher arios…
Jede der fünf CDs enthält eine kontrastreiche Auswahl, denn die Produzenten haben bewusst auf eine chronologische oder systematische Sortierung verzichtet. Und so ist diese Box eine abwechslungsreiche, nie langweilige Entdeckungsreise durch 1000 Jahre Musikgeschichte.
Die Aufnahmen sind durchwegs von gutem musikalischem Niveau und arbeiten die verschiedenen Stile und Auffassungen gut heraus.
Hardly any prayer has been set to music as often as the Ave Maria. The earliest settings date from the time of Gregorian chant. Since then the text has been set to music by several hundred composers from all periods of music history. 68 of these settings are available in this box by Antes Edition. They give a good overview of a repertoire that ranges from Gregorian chant to original compositions and arrangements from various periods and to contemporary pieces. It would be pointless to discuss why the one or other not unimportant Ave Maria is missing. What is important is the diversity of the collection, in which many facets become clear, because the Ave Maria sounds different almost every time, here simple, there reverent or emotional, serious or cheerful, touching or meditative, more liturgical or rather arioso…
Each of the five CDs contains a varied selection, as the producers have deliberately avoided chronological or systematic sorting. And so this box is a wide-ranging, never boring journey through 1000 years of music history.
The recordings are of good musical standard and differentiate very well the styles and perceptions.
