The 2024 edition of the biennial George Enescu International Competition will take place from August 31 to September 27, 2024, in Bucharest, Romania, with four divisions for entrants in Composition, Cello, Violin, and Piano. The 74-year-old Jorge Rivero Tirado, guest conductor of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco, died at the Teatro Degollado due to a fulminant heart attack during a rehearsal. Paramedics arrived to provide care, however, Tirado no longer had vital signs. Born in Cuba, Rivero Tirado had an outstanding career as an oboist and as conductor.
Alexandria Symphony Orchestra has extended the contract of its Music Director James Ross through 2027. The American musician is currently in his sixth season with the orchestra. Der Vertrag des Generalmusikdirektors am Staatstheater Nürnberg, Roland Böer, wird um zwei Spielzeiten verlängert. Er werde bis 2027 bleiben, teilte das Staatstheater Nürnberg heute mit. Der 53-jährige Böer leitet die Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg an Bayerns größtem Mehrspartenhaus seit Herbst 2023. Der Nachfolger von Joana Mallwitz hatte zunächst einen Vertrag bis 2025.
