Der tschechische Dirigent Jakub Hrusa (34) erhält den Charles-Mackerras-Preis der Leos Janacek Stiftung in Brno. Der Preis für Dirigenten unter 40 Jahren ist mit rund 3.000 Euro dotiert und wird für besondere Verdienste um Janaceks Werke vergeben. Der australische Dirigent Sir Charles Mackerras (1925-2010) hatte sich intensiv Janaceks Repertoire gewidmet und legte die finanzielle Basis für die Auszeichnung. Jakob Hrusa ist designierter Chefdirigent der Bamberger Symphoniker.
The National Opera in Paris has removed some fixed separations at the central balcony boxes of the old opera house, Palais Garnier. This transformation has been done in order to get more seats. This transformation has apparently been done without any authorization from the Ministry. However, Palais Garnier is listed as historic monument and any transformation needs an authorization. Now, opponents to the transformations say that the original aspect of the theatre has been changed and they launched a petition asking the management to stop this ‘hideous project’. British BBC is exporting their BBC Proms, a legendary classical summer festival to Australia. In April 2016 a series of Proms will take place in Melbourne.

Das ‘Musikzentrum’ am Marienplatz in Bochum ist am Werden. Um die Marienkirche, gebaut Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts, entsteht ein Neubau mit kleinem und großem Konzertsaal, die neue Heimat der Bochumer Symphoniker und ihres Generalmusikdirektors Steven Sloane. Für weniger als 40 Mio. Das grosse Festspielhaus in Salzburg
192 Aufführungen in 41 Tagen an 14 Spielstätten veranstalten die Salzburger Festspiele zwischen dem 22. Juli bis 31. August 2016. Das wurde heute auf der Jahrespressekonferenz mitgeteilt. Das Gesamtbudget 2016 beträgt 60,54 Mio. Euro. Von den 192 Vorstellung sind 46 für die Oper reserviert, mit. u.a der Uraufführung des Auftragswerks ‘The Exterminating Angel’ des britischen Komponisten Thomas Adès. Die wichtigste Sparte ist das Konzert mit 81 Veranstaltungen. Für 2016 sind 230.750 Karten aufgelegt, in der Preisspanne von € 5 bis € 430.

The Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal has been awarded to pianist Martha Argerich. She is the 101st recipient since the medal was founded in 1870 in celebration of the centenary of the birth of Beethoven. The Athenaeum International Cultural Centre and the Atheneum Conservatory in Athens today announced the death of their founder and President, conductor Louly Psichouli. Psichouli, founder also of the International Music Competition Maria Callas Grand Prix, died on October 29. Louly Psichouli was born in Athens and started her studies in music at a very early age. She studied in Athens, in Paris with the professors Jacques Février and Marguerite Long and in Vienna with Hans Swarovsky. She was the first woman conductor in Greece.

The oratorio Sanctus Adalbertus by the Polish composer Henryk Górecki will have its world premiere tonight in Krakow, Poland. The work is scored for soprano, baritone, mixed choir and symphony orchestra and will be performed by the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Polish Radio Choir from Krakow and the Krakow Philharmonic Choir conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk, with Wioletta Chodowicz and Artur Ruciński as soloists.
