The Jury of the Long-Thibaud Crespin Foundation has not awarded the First Prize in this year’s piano competition. Second Prize went to the young Brit Julian Trevelyan, who is only 16 years old. He also won the Special Concerto Award. Third Prize was awarded to Kaoru Jitsukawa, 26, from Japan. According to his Facebook page, young Julian is a pianist, violinist, singer (tenor) and violist. He is also interested in conducting and composing.

Das Oberste Berufungsgericht in Ankara hat eine 10-monatige Haftstrafe gegen den türkischen Pianisten und Komponisten Fazıl Say aufgehoben. Die Richter haben die Twitter-Posts, die 2012 zu Says Verurteilung führten, als freie Meinungsäußerung gewertet und damit als nicht strafbar hingestellt. Damit ist der Fall allerdings nicht ‘ad acta’ gelegt, denn das Gericht
der ersten Instanz muss die Umkehr der Entscheidung durch das Oberste Berufungsgericht akzeptieren. Wenn das nicht geschieht, wird der Fall neu aufgerollt.

When, from 2019, David Geffen Hall (former Avery Fisher Hall) will be closed for renovation, the New York Philharmonic could play at the Auditorium of the Hunter College, on Park Ave. and 68th Street, an East Side building, architecturally rather ugly, which has an auditorium seating 2000. The New York Times reports that the hall will need some renovation work to make it right for the Philharmonic. According to the newspaper, officials at both Hunter and the Philharmonic sound ‘optimistic’ about the project.

In 2012, politicians of the Flemish speaking part and the French speaking part of Belgium signed an agreement in order to get an increased cooperation between the two communities. Alas, the regional actors in the cultural domain were not impressed and partnerships were rarely engaged. Now, the politicians push on that issue, convinced that the agreement should not sink in an eternal sleep. They call for projects, and clever enough, they have an appetizer: money… So, the big question for the music life is: will money be enough to let Flemish musicians play together with Walloons?
