Das Drama der Königin der Amazonen, Penthesilea, die sich vor Troja in den griechischen Krieger Achilles verliebt und ihn tötet, als er den Kampf fordert, um sich besiegen zu lassen, da das Gesetz der Amazonen nur den Mann als Samenspender zulässt, den sie besiegt haben, ist natürlich ein gutes Thema für jeden Komponisten von opernhaften Stoffen. Dusapin erschafft aus der Vorlage von Heinrich von Kleist in straffen 90 Minuten ein Werk, das die Konflikte auf den Punkt bringt und sich einbrennt. Violinist Maria Milstein and the members of the Busch Trio, Mathieu van Bellen, Omri and Ori Epstein, have realized an ambitious dream: the creation of a chamber music centre called MuziekHaven in Zaandam, a suburb of Amsterdam. « A sanctuary where musicians can dedicate themselves entirely to their music, our location aims to provide chamber musicians with the ideal conditions for development and discovery », Mathieu van Bellen says. British conductor Mark Elder, 72, who already stopped conducting due to pain in his neck in July, will not return to the podium until end of November. The Manchester based orchestra The Hallé, where Elder is Music Director, tweeted that « Following surgery in the middle of August to release a trapped nerve in his neck, and under medical advice, Sir Mark Elder has very reluctantly decided to cancel his forthcoming engagements. This will give him time for the fullest possible recuperation. He will return to the podium Sunday 24 November 2019 to conduct a performance of the Bach B minor Mass with the Hallé. »

Der englische Komponist Herbert Howells hat früh Orchesterwerke und später vor allem geistliche Musik geschaffen. Er zog es vor, die kirchlichen Modi und die pentatonische Skala eine bedeutendere Rolle bei der Konstruktion seines Schaffens spielen zu lassen. Etwa in der Fantasie für Cello und Orchester, dem ersten Satz des Konzertes, zeigt Howells seine Fähigkeit, eine sanfte melodische Linie mit einer fast störenden harmonischen Dissonanz zu verbinden.
