The Salzburg Festival plans a temporary venue during renovations of the Festival Hall. In December, the board of trustees selected two possible locations. During the construction phase, which is expected to last eight years in total (from 2025), a steel hall suitable for year-round use will be built, in which concerts and concertante operas can be held.

According to Mayor Bernhard Auinger, a total of €34.8 million has been earmarked for the project, with around a third of this amount set aside for the hall, reports the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper.

The closure of the Grand Festival Hall, which seats around 2,000 people, is currently planned for fall 2027 to spring 2030. However, the board of trustees has commissioned a review to determine whether its use can be extended until summer 2028 to shorten the downtime and spread the costs more evenly.
