Philip Glass

American composer Philip Glass has been asked by the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra to compose a song for the Beninoise singer-songwriter and activist Angélique Kidjo. The piece is to be first performed at Luxembourg’s Philharmonic Hall on 17 January 2014. This is not Philip Glass’ first collaboration with Kidjo. He is known for being an admirer and fan of the African singer. In a message published for an earlier event the composer said: « I’ve had several opportunities to collaborate with her artistically and the results have always been refreshing and exhilarating for me. She has emerged not only as unique and powerful artist in her own light but represents a broadening range of cultural achievement in the field of global music which is so important for our time. »
