Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra is performing ICMA’s Gala Concert 2017 next Saturday, 1 April at the Gewandhaus. The concert will be conducted by Francesco Angelico. Chief Conductor of the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck as well as the Tyrolean Theatre, the Sicily born conductor now leads this ensemble in his fourth and at the same time last season. French composer Karol Beffa was awarded the Grand Prix France Musique des Muses at the Paris Book Fair for his biography of György Ligeti published by Fayard. Three other authors received an award: Karine Le Bail for her work La musique au pas – être musicien sous l’occupation (CNRS Editions), Claude Abromont for La symphonie fantastique (Editions Philharmonie de Paris), as well as Agnès Desarthe and René Urtreger for Le Roi René (Odile Jacob).

Das ‘Copenhagen Phil’ (Sjællands Symfoniorkester) reagiert mit einer Petition auf den Vorschlag der dänischen Kulturministerin Mette Bock das Orchester zu schließen. Auf der Petitionsseite im Internet steht: « Es gibt fünf staatlich finanzierte ‘Landsdelsorkester’ – entsprechend einem Orchester in jedem ‘Bundesland’. Das ‘Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’ zeichnet den österreichischen Pianisten Rudolf Buchbinder (70) mit der « Ehrenmitgliedschaft auf Lebenszeit » aus. Verliehen wird ihm der Titel am morgigen 25. März bei einer Feierstunde im Palais Schönburg in Wien. Anlass ist die Gründung eines österreichischen Freundesvereins des vor 80 Jahren gegründeten Orchesters.

Im Herbst 2017 wird der Chefdirigent des MDR-Sinfonieorchesters, Kristjan Järvi, 44, seine letzte Spielzeit in Leipzig einläuten, meldet der Sender. Nach sechs Jahren Zusammenarbeit möchte der gebürtige Este den Fokus auf verschiedene andere Projekte richten, verlautet vom MDR. Das ‘Baltic Sea Philharmonic ‘und das ‘Absolute Ensemble’ würden weiterhin seine festen Ensembles bleiben, daneben werde der Allround-Musiker als Gastdirigent auftreten.
