Andris Nelsons, 40, wird am 1. Januar 2020 zum ersten Mal das Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker leiten, teilte das Orchester mit. Der lettische Dirigent, der Musikdirektor des Boston Symphony sowie des Gewandhausorchesters Leipzig ist, hat das Wiener Orchester erstmals 2010 dirigiert. 2019 verbinden die Philharmoniker kommerziell mit Nelsons einen gemeinsamen Beethoven-Zyklus auf CD mit Konzerten in Wien sowie auf Tournee.

French harpsichordist Blandine Verlet died at the age of 76, her label Aparté announced yesterday. Born in 1942 in Paris, Blandine Verlet studied harpsichord with Marcelle de Lacour. At 21, she graduated from the National Conservatory of Music in Paris. She continued her studies at the Academy of Siena and then at Yale University, with Ralph Kirkpatrick. She started a concert career, recorded a lot and taught in various places.

The catalogue of publications by Luxembourg Music Publishers has expanded considerably, the organization said. In the Heritage collection, several instrumental works by Luxembourg’s first national composer Laurent Menager have been added. « During our research, we discovered that some works benefited from interesting transcriptions for other instruments. National Opera of Bordeaux has announced that their General Manager’s contract is renewed until August 2022. Marc Minkowski took the position in 2016. Minkowski (56) is also Music Director of Les Musiciens du Louvre.
Die Polizei aus Calgary beschloss gestern, den Flughafen der Stadt zu räumen, nachdem ein Fluggast eine bewaffnete Person gemeldet hatte. Wie es sich herausstellen sollte, war es ein Jugendlicher mit seinem Instrument, der sich auf ein Konzert vorbereitete, das die Flughafenverwaltung in der Abflughalle geplant hatte. Dafür war eine lokale Band eingeladen worden. Jemand hatte eine Klarinette mit einem Gewehr verwechselt. Der Flughafen wurde nach kurzeitiger Schließung wieder geöffnet.
Das traditionelle Weihnachtskonzert ‘Christmas in Vienna’ feiert dieses Jahr im Wiener Konzerthaus sein 25-jähriges Bestehen. Bei dem Weihnachtskonzert treten diesmal eine Reihe von Gesangssolisten gemeinsam mit dem ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester unter der Leitung von Christian Arming auf. Mit dabei sind auch die Wiener Singakademie und die Wiener Sängerknaben.
