On the afternoon of Dec. 14, the 92-year-old American opera singer Paula Bouthiller was struck by a delivery truck on Main Street in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

While being in a coma most of the time, she woke up in the hospital once and started singing. She ultimately died from her injuries on January 4.

Bouthiller was a longtime member of the Worcester Opera Society and frequently sang at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
