More than hundred young pianists have made an initial submission of a recital on DVD for participation in the first round of the brand new competition ‘Astana Piano Passion’, directed by Russian pianist Denis Matsuev. 30 candidates from 13 countries were admitted into the final round, to take place between May 10 and 16 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The competition is organized for the pianists aged 10 and under (Category I), 11-14 (Cat. II) and 15-18 (Cat.III). The total fund of prize money for the competition is 50.000 US dollars. The Grand Prix is a Yamaha grand piano. Candidates mainly come from Russia. A number of them have other nationalities: Australia, China, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Ukraine, Singapore, USA.
