Der 1970 geborene chinesische Komponist Gao Ping benutzt das Klavier, um in einer Fusion von westlichen und chinesischen Traditionen eine sehr aparte Musik zu erzeugen. Das Programm beginnt mit dem quasi impressionistischen, anfangs zarten und anmutigen, danach etwas bewegten Autumn Pond.
Die sehr rhythmisch komplexen Floating Shadows fordern die Vorstellungskraft des Zuhörers stärker heraus. Bai Zhou (Porridge) aus dem Jahre 2022 ist ein teils sehr nervöses Stück für eine sprechende Pianistin.
Der Farewell Waltz ist ein sehr origineller Walzer mit einem Wechsel von langsam-nostalgischen und schnellen, etwas erzürnten Passagen.
Der Titel von Window at Dusk bezieht sich auf das anhaltende, aber allmählich verblassende Licht der Dämmerung. Little Waltz ist absolut charmant und umso erstaunlicher, als Ping dafür kaum Modelle in seiner heimatlichen Musik fand. In der traditionellen chinesischen Musik gibt es angeblich nur selten Musikstücke im Dreiertakt.
Der während des COVID-Lockdowns komponierte, vierteilige Zyklus Wanderings ist meditativ und etwas ziellos, aber voller interessanter Ideen
Die Interpretationen von Yubo Zhou zeichnen sich durch Klarheit und Sensibilität aus. Die Tonaufnahme ist exzellent.

The program begins with the quasi-impressionistic Autumn Pond, which starts out delicate and graceful before becoming somewhat more agitated.

Farewell Waltz is a highly original waltz with alternating slow, nostalgic passages and fast, somewhat angry passages.
The title Window at Dusk refers to the lingering but gradually fading light of dusk. Little Waltz is utterly charming and all the more astonishing given that Ping found few models for it in his native music. In traditional Chinese music, pieces in triple meter are said to be rare.
The four-part cycle Wanderings, composed during the warmth of the COVID lockdown, is meditative and somewhat aimless, but full of interesting ideas.
Yubo Zhou’s interpretations are characterized by clarity and sensitivity. The sound recording is excellent.
