On 2 February 2019, Dieter Oehms will celebrate his 78th birthday. He has worked in the music business since 1965. He founded his own label Oehms Classics in the spring of 2003, having previously worked in a managerial capacity for DG/Polygram and Bertelsmann/Arte Nova.

Looking back on fifty years of experience « and actively shaping the music market, on an infinite number of meetings with brilliant artists and an unbelievable wealth of music he has heard and witnessed », Dieter Oehms has decided to retire with effect from 31 March 2019.

Since 1 January 2018, his label has been part of the Naxos Group and will continue to be managed professionally by Naxos, with the existing members of staff.

In a statement, Dieter Oehms expresses his gratitude « to all the partners of the label, in particular to the media, the radio stations, the music publishers, opera houses and orchestras, all the conductors and solo artists, the distribution partners and not least his own team, without whose active and responsible contributions the success of the label would not have been possible. »

What will remain, he says « is my unbroken passion for music, which will persevere even in retirement, because, as Nietzsche says, ‘without music, life would be a mistake’.

For his birthday and his life in retirement, Pizzicato wishes Dieter Oehms all the best and many musically rich years.
