Czech composer, pianist, and teacher Bohuslav Rehor has died at the age of 88. He studied piano at the Brno Conservatory. He then enrolled at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he studied composition in Theodor Schaefer’s class until 1960.
Immediately after completing his studies, he began teaching. Until 1986, he taught composition and music theory at the Brno Conservatory. He then joined the Prague Conservatory as a composition teacher, where he remained until 2016.
His work is dominated by chamber instrumental pieces, such as eight string quartets, a brass quintet, a saxophone quartet, and compositions written for unconventional chamber ensembles.
Concertante compositions also occupy a prominent place, such as the Concerto for Two French Horns and Strings, Concerto for English Horn and Strings, Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, and Concerto for Solo Violin and Strings. In addition, he composed sonatas for various instruments, including cello, harpsichord, marimba, violin, and piano. Last but not least, he also wrote four symphonies, two symphonietta, and the symphonic movement Archetypy.
