American composer Philip Glass, 88, withdrew the world premiere of his symphony ‘Lincoln’ from the Kennedy Center, saying the work’s values conflict with those of the performing arts venue that was taken over by Donald Trump.
Glass is the latest musician to withdraw from the Kennedy Center since Trump named himself chairman and filled its board with his allies last year. Before Trump, Renée Fleming was the most recent artist in a long line, who turns their back on the center. Trump, the notorious liar and braggart, is now blaming those who were previously responsible for all these cancellations. Ultimately, this may not be as terrible as him blaming the civilians murdered by his ICE combat troops for their own deaths, but it is nonetheless unacceptable.
