Bryn Terfel
Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, has been forced to cancel his participation in yesterday’s performance of The Flying Dutchman at the Bilbao Opera in Spain, after suffering a fall in which he broke his right foot. He was replaced by Moldovan bass-baritone Roman Ialcic, the opera house announced.
Terfel’s next production is the same Wagner opera at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, under the baton of Valery Gergiev, which is due to open at the beginning of March. On Sunday 2 February he is set to give a recital at the Lyric Opera in Chicago. This concert has so far not be cancelled.
