Das Problem bei dieser Aufnahme ist, dass jeder sein Ding macht, der Dirigent so gut wie der Pianist. Der litauische Pianist Kasparas Unskas spielt durchwegs brillant. Da gibt es kein Zuckerschlecken, kein Vollbad in Vanillecrème, sondern viriles, expressives und spannungsvolles Spiel. Jede Note erklingt gestochen scharf, so dass das Klavier manchmal wie ein Glockenspiel klingt.

Atvars Lakstigala gibt sich Mühe, dem Orchester, wenn es allein spielt, und dann vor allem den Holzbläsern, zu einem differenzierten Spiel zu verhelfen. Aber mehr als sorgfältig zu begleiten tut der Dirigent nicht, zu einem richtigen Dialog kommt es kaum während der sechs Sätze.

Die Tonaufnahme ist weiträumig, das Klavier ist deutlich im Vordergrund zu hören.

The problem with this recording is that everyone does his own thing, the conductor as much as the pianist. Lithuanian pianist Kasparas Unskas plays brilliantly throughout. There is no sugarcoating, no bathing in vanilla cream, but rather virile, expressive, and suspenseful playing. Every note rings out crystal clear, so that the piano sometimes sounds like a glockenspiel.

Atvars Lakstigala tries to help the orchestra, when it plays alone, and then especially the woodwinds, to play in a differentiated manner. But the conductor does little more than accompany carefully, and there is hardly any real dialogue during the six movements.

The sound recording is spacious, with the piano clearly audible in the foreground.
