When the West Australian Opera in Perth announced last week that they had agreed not to perform Carmen because of its references to smoking, the news was commented all over the world. Now, the West Australian Government said they will direct the opera’s sponsor, health promotion agency Healthway, to allow the WA Opera to perform Bizet’s much loved piece.
